Carlisle Iowa

Carlisle is geographically located southeast of Des Moines and is in both Warren and Polk Counties. Carlisle was founded after the Great Flood of 1851. Carlisle received considerable media attention in 1997, when Carlisle residents Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey became the parents of the world's first surviving set of septuplets. The population of Carlisle is 3,951, making up 1,474 households with an average household size of 2.57, and a median household income of $59,030. Carlisle has easy access to the rest of the Metro via Highway 5.

Carlisle is home to Summerset Trail. Summerset Trail is an 11-mile bike trail and is paved with asphalt. It is a "rail trail," having been built on the route of an abandoned railroad line between Carlisle at its northeast end, and Indianola at the southwest end. The trail passes through prairie, wetlands, woodlands, and along the Middle River.

Carlisle IowaThe Carlisle Community School District located just southeast of Des Moines is a rapidly growing district that includes the cities of Carlisle, Hartford, Avon Lake, and a portion of southeast Des Moines. The district enrolls approximately 2,000 students in four schools. Carlisle High School is a class 3-A high school serving students grades 9-12. Carlisle Middle School was built in 2007 and serves grades 6-8. Hartford Upper Elementary, the only school not located within Carlisle itself, serves students in grades 4-5. Carlisle Elementary School is immediately adjacent to the high school and houses the district office. It serves students from pre-kindergarten to grade 3. The Wildcats represent the Carlisle Community School District as their mascot.
