Living History Farms does this by recreating the daily routines of historical years by means of "living history" interpretation. To accomplish this, Living History Farms constructs authentic simulations of typical historical farm sites and a small town from time periods that illustrate major changes in agricultural technology, procedures, and rural life.
For golfers, Urbandale Golf and Country Club is a great private course. The course was started in 1965 and sits on 87 acres in the heart of Urbandale. The club features a premiere 9-hole golf course, a beautiful swimming pool, and a great clubhouse.
Urbandale is home to 48 parks, consisting of 900 acres of parkland, and 38 miles of trails. Urbandale also has the Urbandale Public Swimming Pool, which is the only indoor public swimming pool in the Des Moines Metro.
Depending on property location, Urbandale residents are served by six local school districts which include Dallas Center-Grimes School District, Des Moines School District, Urbandale Community School District, Waukee School District, Johnston School District, and the West Des Moines Community School District. The Urbandale Community School District serves approximately 3,800 students in six elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Outside of public school opportunities, Des Moines Christian School is located in Urbandale, which is a K-12, Christian based private school.
