Indianola Iowa

Indianola is geographically located south of Des Moines in Warren County. Indianola was founded in 1849. Indianola has access to the rest of the Metro via Highway 69. Indianola has a population of approximately 15,108, making up approximately 5,430 households, with an average household size of 2.44, and a median household income of $54,880. Indianola is the home of the National Balloon Classic and National Balloon Museum.

Staying active and entertained is no problem in Indianola. Area attractions include, but are not limited to the following:

Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park - Iowa's newest state park underwent an "extreme makeover" to create a new venue of family fun in the outdoors from what was once a coal mine site. Shoreline picnicking is available with fire grills and picnic tables. Walk, bike or skate the two-mile, paved scenic bike loop, which runs alongside the park's roadways. The bike loop connects with the 12-mile Summerset bike trail that connects Indianola and Carlisle. Plans are also in place to create a premier mountain biking trail system in the park. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy excellent fishing and boating opportunities. Banner shooting range also adjoins the park.

Indianola IowaFarnham Galleries - The gallery is located at Simpson College, and provides Simpson and the surrounding community with the opportunity to witness and experience artwork of professional artists. By presenting a wide range of artists, artistic styles and media, Farnham Galleries seeks to provide a fully diverse examination of the visual arts to the public.

Indianola Downtown Merchants - This is a historic area in Indianola with an eclectic array of shops, restaurants and services. Visit one of the many unique shops, dine inside or on the patio, and enjoy the ambiance of both the present day and a not so distant past.

La Vida Loca Winery - The winery is located between Indianola and Martensdale just off Highway 92. La Vida Loca Winery always has free sampling of wines! Private tasting parties can be arranged and custom wines are available. A banquet facility for up to 150 people is also available.

The Indianola Community School District serves more than 3,200 students from pre-kindergarten through senior high with six schools, including Whittier, Emerson, Irving, Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary, Indianola Middle School, and Indianola High School. The district covers 155 square miles within Warren County. Indianola High School competes in Class 4-A in sports and extracurricular activities. The Indians represent the Indianola Community School District as their mascot.

Also located in Indianola is Simpson College. Simpson College is a four-year, co-educational liberal arts institution that is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

*Sustainable residential property tax abatement must qualify as follows: Prior to awarding the five-year tax abatement incentive, the owner, builder or developer must complete and submit a sustainable residential property tax abatement application to the Department of Community Development, which has specific requirements for insulation, roofing, windows, H.V.A.C., appliances, plumbing fixtures and plantings.

Tax Increment Financing (TIF) is available in some areas and interested parties should contact the City of Indianola.
