Cumming Iowa

Cumming is geographically located southwest of Des Moines and is in Warren County. Cumming is considered to be one of the smallest incorporated suburbs of the Des Moines Metropolitan Area. It was formally established as a city in October, 1888. Cumming has a population of 351, making up 128 households with an average household size of 2.74, and a median household income of $52,813.

Cumming is home to the Great Western Bike Trail. After the Chicago and Western Railroad abandoned its rail lines running from Martensdale through Cumming to Des Moines, surrounding communities pitched together to convert them to nature trails shared by bikers and hikers. These paved trails extend through the rolling hills of Iowa’s prairie and wetland areas. Another destination spot in Cumming is The Cumming Tap. The Cumming Tap is a neighborhood bar that borders The Great Western Trail, about ten miles south of Des Moines. For years this has been the cyclists’ hangout.

Cumming IowaThere are four separate school districts that cover Cumming. These include: Norwalk Community School District, West Des Moines Community School District, Martensdale-St. Mary’s Community School District, and Winterset Community School District.
