Ankeny is in Polk County and is geographically located in the northern part of the Des Moines Metropolitan Area. It is conveniently situated at the intersection of Interstates 35 and 80, offering immediate coast-to-coast and border-to-border access. Ankeny was incorporated as a city on February 28, 1903. It has a population of approximately 51,567, making up 16,308 households, with an average household size of 2.57, and a median household income of $71,963.

Ankeny has a variety of educational opportunities ranging from kindergarten to college. The Ankeny Community School District is the 10th largest school district in the state (8,964 students). The graduation rate is approximately 96.4 percent, and approximately 87 percent of graduates go on to attend college. Graduating class sizes are around 450-500. The Hawks and Hawkettes represent the Ankeny Community School District as their mascot.
Another opportunity for education is Ankeny Christian Academy (ACA), which includes preschool through 12th grade. ACA is a college prep school and is integrated with Christian teachings on God and the world. The Eagles represent Ankeny Christian Academy as their mascot.
Des Moines Area Community College's (DMACC) main campus is located in Ankeny. There are over 2,400 faculty and staff, and over 28,000 students enrolled in the college. DMACC offers over 3,000 classes in 125 career programs, certifications and technical programs, as well as liberal arts transfer degrees. The state-of-the-art campus sits on a 304-acre site in Ankeny.
